Medial meniscus tear in the knee

I had a patient recently with a medial meniscal posterior horn tear. But the tear had not come on from any sudden trauma but was insidious. I wondered what the incidence was for traumatic versus degenerative meniscal injury. 

Apparently 50-60% of tears in the older age groups ie; over the age of 65 are degenerative and they usually affect the posterior horn of the medial meniscus.
